This is the story of two half-sisters, bound by slavery, divided by love. Set in the Dutch colony of Surinam in the 18th century, The Price of Sugar follows a family of Jewish Dutch sugar plantation owners and their slaves. This is a gripping, romantic and heart-wrenching story of two half-sisters of which life has made one the slave of the other. As beautiful Sarith goes through affairs and marriage, her half-sister, slave and confident, Mini-Mini, has only one goal – to support her Mistress and her son Jethro. But when the Maroon Rebellion reaches the plantation, Mini-Mini has to choose between her people and her loyalty to the family.
